Many approaches have been developed for reasoning under incomplete
information with uncertain rules having exceptions. Some of them are symbolic
and based on a logical framework or on logic programming; others are more
numerically oriented and make use of probabilities, qualitative or quantitative
possibilities, or of mathematically more general uncertainty frameworks
such as belief and plausibility functions, or upper and lower probabilities.
The session will especially welcome papers contributing to a cross-fertilization
of ideas or tools coming from symbolic methods (normative frameworks, bilattices,...)
and from numerical approaches (independence, graphical representation,
conditioning,...) for NMR and revision purposes. Papers addressing problems
related to the practical use and applications of probabilistic, possibilistic
and other uncertainty frameworks in NMR are also expected, as well as NMR
issues in reasoning about goals and preferences, or about obligations and
permissions.
Informal proceedings containing accepted papers and other workshop
materials will be distributed at the meeting. In addition, they will
be published on the web.
The general procedure for submission of the special session is identical
to the procedure of NMR2000. Format requirements are:
12 double-spaced pages excluding
title page and bibliograpy
on-line submissions are encouraged
(postscript file)
